Young people from around Australia will speak online in real time with the Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Mark Butler, in a forum hosted by leading online mental health service for young people, ReachOut website.
The forum, the second to be hosted by ReachOut.com and Mr Butler, will take place tonight from 6:30 pm to 8.00 pm AEST.
Mr Butler said the forum would provide young Australians with the opportunity to provide input into the delivery of the Government’s mental health reforms.
“This year’s budget included the single largest mental health investment in Australian history with more than $2.2 billion in new initiatives, including a boost in services for children and young people,” Mr Butler said.
“Mental illness generally strikes early in life, so it is critical young people know what supports are available and how they can access them. It’s also important that we reach out and talk to young Australians through mediums that we know they’re comfortable and familiar with.”
Young people will be invited to talk about their attitudes towards mental health and help-seeking, share their experience of mental health services and provide insights and recommendations for the future of mental health care, including services for young people.
Anyone aged 14–25 can register to participate in the forum by logging in to the ReachOut.com forums just before 6.30pm AEST on Wednesday, 10 August 2011 at the following link:
