South Australian patients will benefit from increased access to more doctors, nurses and allied health professionals with the announcement of nearly $15 million for around 30 capital projects and additional support projects to improve clinical education and training infrastructure across the State.

South Australian patients will benefit from increased access to more doctors, nurses and allied health professionals with the announcement today of nearly $15 million for around 30 capital projects and additional support projects to improve clinical education and training infrastructure across the State.
Acting Minister for Health and Ageing, Mark Butler said that the new clinical training infrastructure includes training facilities at Universities, hospitals and health care facilities, as well as new equipment such as simulation equipment, dental chairs and video conferencing facilities.
“These infrastructure projects will enable us to train more doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in places where we need them,” said Minister Butler.
“The Gillard Government is delivering a highly skilled health workforce that is the critical backbone of our health system.
“This funding will see the refurbishment of a clinical training and education resource facility at the Flinders Medical Centre, the construction of a state of the art dental simulation facility at The University of Adelaide just to name a few.
‘We are ensuring that training occurs closer to where patients live - at least twenty percent of these infrastructure projects are outside the usual major teaching hospitals.
“Nationally fifty percent of projects funded under this program will deliver vital infrastructure to rural and regional Australia including construction of new clinical training facilities and student accommodation to support rural students”, said Minister Butler.
