A new Australian government website that features innovative initiatives to improve the nutritional profile of Australia's food supply, was launched today by the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King.

"The website showcases the work of the Food and Health Dialogue, chaired by Ms King, which brings together government, industry and public health groups with the aim of addressing poor dietary habits and making healthier food choices easier and more accessible for all Australians.

"The Dialogue has already achieved commitments from industry to reduce the sodium content of more than 100 bread products and more than 20 ready-to-eat breakfast cereals," Ms King said.

“Sodium reduction targets have also been agreed for simmer sauces, and sodium and saturated fat reduction targets for processed meats.

"The new website will keep consumers informed about the work of the Dialogue including achievement targets and timeframes in tackling salt, sugar, saturated fat and energy and increasing the fibre, wholegrain, fruit and vegetable content of commonly consumed foods.

"Information on monitoring activities and the next food sectors to be engaged under the Dialogue will also appear on the website. Over time details of related initiatives, including food reformulation activities being undertaken in the United Kingdom and the United States, will be added to the site."

Ms King said importantly, the new website allows consumers to see which companies have signed up to the Food and Health Dialogue and who is committed to improve the nutritional profile of their products.

The new Food and Health Dialogue website can be accessed from today at www.foodhealthdialogue.gov.au.
