The Australian Government today released the report of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Transparency Review panel, chaired by Professor Dennis Pearce.

In November last year the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King, commissioned a comprehensive review of the way in which the TGA communicates its regulatory processes and decisions.

The purpose of the review was to improve public knowledge of regulatory decision-making and to enhance public understanding of the benefits and risks of therapeutic goods so that the Australian community can understand how the TGA operates and the reasons for its key decisions.

Ms King said today she was pleased by the depth of interest in the review. "It is important that the community understands the TGA and its processes as the decisions it makes have a profound impact on the public health of the nation," Ms King said.

The government will now fully consider the Review Panel Report and provide a formal response.

A copy of the Review Report is available at http://www.tga.gov.au/newsroom/review-tga-transparency-1101.htm.
