New Funds for Renal Nurse Case Manager Positions in the NT
The Australian Government has provided additional funding of $704,000 for renal nurse case manager positions Katherine, Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

Minister for Indigenous Health Warren Snowdon today announced the Australian Government has provided additional funding of $704,000 for renal nurse case manager positions in the Northern Territory.
The additional funding is for four renal nurse case manager positions located in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in Katherine, Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
“These funds will ensure renal patient care coordination and monitoring of client outcomes will be continued by renal nurses,” Mr Snowdon said.
This announcement will provide further funding to Wurli-Wulinjang Aboriginal Corporation (Katherine), Danila Dilba (Darwin), Anyinginy Aboriginal Corporation (Tennant Creek) and Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (Alice Springs).
Renal nurse case managers support prevention and effective management of renal and other chronic diseases and earlier intervention strategies to help reduce complications and ensure better client outcomes.
“This funding for renal nurses, will improve care levels and improve the safety of dialysis. Self-care support and training for patients will also be bolstered,” he said.
Mr Snowdon acknowledged the important work being undertaken by renal nurse case mangers in the NT on improving health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in remote and very remote areas affected by chronic kidney disease.
“The Australian Government has been working with the Northern Territory Government and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services to help reduce the particularly high incidence of chronic kidney disease among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in the NT.”
The Federal Government recently announced it would fund a Central Australian Renal Dialysis Services Study in consultation with the NT, SA and WA governments into the provision of dialysis services in remote and very remote areas.
The Gillard Labor Government provides more than $10m for renal dialysis services in the NT, including $5.3m to improve access to renal services for remote communities.
