March Quarter Medicare Statistics
In the March quarter 2010, a total of $3.7 billion was paid in Medicare benefits for 73.9 million services. This represented 3.3 services and about $165 in benefits for every Australian.

In the March quarter 2010, a total of $3.7 billion was paid in Medicare benefits for 73.9 million services. This represented 3.3 services and about $165 in benefits for every Australian.
During the quarter, 74.5 per cent of all services were bulk billed, up 0.6 of a percentage point on the December quarter 2009 and down 0.3 of a percentage point on the March quarter 2009.
Of all non-referred (GP) attendances 79.6 per cent were bulk billed, unchanged on the December quarter 2009 and up 0.2 of a percentage point on the March quarter 2009.
Bulk billing for GP attendances in the March quarter 2010, compared with the March quarter 2009, show:
- NSW down 0.6 of a percentage point to 84.2 per cent
- Victoria up 0.7 of a percentage point to 78.4 per cent
- Queensland up 1.7 percentage points to 79.2 per cent
- South Australia down 1.3 percentage points to 78.4 per cent
- Western Australia up 0.2 of a percentage point to 72.5 per cent
- Tasmania up 1.4 percentage points to 74.8 per cent
- Northern Territory up 3.6 percentage points to 66.1 per cent
- ACT down 4.9 percentage points to 47.0 per cent.
