The Federal Government congratulates the live music community for taking a stand against irresponsible drinking and alcohol related violence.
‘Live Solution: live music against alcohol fuelled violence’ will be held on Monday 26 April 2010 in Melbourne.
This event shows how the live music industry and fans of live music - can play a part in challenging alcohol related violence and encouraging the responsible consumption and service of alcohol.
Communities - backed by governments, business and other supporters are the key to changing the culture of binge drinking and violence in Australia.
Sponsorship is being provided from the Australian Government to the Youth Alcohol Education Coalition for this initiative, a pilot partnership to raise awareness of the risks of binge drinking.
The Australian Government congratulates the Youth Alcohol Education Coalition and Mushroom Marketing for organising the event as well as Melbourne’s independent community radio station 3RRR, who will broadcast the event live.
The ‘Live Solution: live music against alcohol fuelled violence’ event will showcase some of Melbourne’s best musical talent – including Dallas Crane, Black Cab, Charles Jenkins & the Zhivagos, Precious Jules, Sand Pebbles, World’s End Press, Guy Blackman, Aleks and the Ramps, The Spoils and Sophia Brous.
I congratulate the musicians for stepping up to be role models. This event sends a strong message that everyone should be safe to go out and enjoy Melbourne’s live music scene safely.
Under the $53.5m National Binge Drinking Strategy, the Government has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at reducing the harms caused by the excessive consumption of alcohol.
These include the National Binge Drinking Campaign, community level initiatives which confront the culture of binge drinking, particularly in sporting organisations, and an Early Intervention Pilot Program designed to assist young people and ensure that they assume personal responsibility for their binge drinking.
