Health Minister inspects Palmerston GP Super Clinic
Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon and Member for Solomon Damian Hale have inspected the therapy wing and other recent work at the $10 million Palmerston GP Super Clinic.

25 January 2009Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon and Member for Solomon Damian Hale today inspected the therapy wing and other recent work at the $10 million Palmerston GP Super Clinic.
“The therapy wing of the GP Super Clinic will be a key part of the 2000 square-metre building, providing rooms for chronic disease clinics and children’s therapy assessments,” Minister Roxon said.
“I am pleased with the progress of the GP Super Clinic construction, which is on track for full service to be open in the second half of 2010.
“The Rudd Government’s GP Super Clinics are designed to deliver high-quality, affordable primary health care in an accessible way,” Minister Roxon said.
The Minister also welcomed the negotiations between the NT Government and Flinders University underway to provide clinical services at the GP Super Clinic.
“I’m pleased negotiations between the NT Government and Flinders University are underway, so we can ensure the GP Super Clinic will be fully operational for the people of Palmerston this year,” Minister Roxon said.
Member for Solomon, Damian Hale, welcomed Minister Roxon’s third visit to Palmerston since the election of the Rudd Government.
Mr Hale said, “Stage 1 of the Palmerston GP Super Clinic – the Urgent Care After-Hours Service – continues to operate every day between the hours of 6.00 pm and 8.00 am, and has treated over 10,000 people to date.
“I’m pleased that the Federal Government has been able to work so quickly with the Territory Government to ensure this facility is open this year.
“As I move around Palmerston people tell me of the importance of this facility and how keen they are to see it up and running fully this year,” said Mr Hale.
The Palmerston GP Super Clinic is joint initiative between the Australian and Northern Territory Governments, and is currently under construction at the Palmerston Health Precinct, on the corner of Roystonea Avenue and Temple Terrace.
