Parliamentary Secretary for Health the Hon Mark Butler, South Australian Minister for Health the Hon John Hill and Federal Member for Kingston Amanda Rishworth today inspected the start of preliminary works on the new $25 million Noarlunga GP Plus Super Clinic.

The facility is a jointly funded project between the State and Federal Governments and will bring together GPs, nurses, allied health professionals and specialists.

Mr Butler said the Noarlunga GP Plus Super Clinic is essential infrastructure in an area with a rapidly rising population, a growing proportion of retirees and a seasonal influx of tourists.

“A GP Plus Super Clinic, with health professionals working in multi-disciplinary teams, providing patients with team-based, integrated patient-centred care, is part of the answer,” he said.

“The Rudd Government has committed $32.5 million to GP Plus Super Clinics in South Australia, streamlining healthcare, creating training for medical students, providing jobs and creating better access to healthcare services for the local community.”

Minister Hill said, “In Adelaide, the chain of GP Plus and Super Clinics will stretch from Elizabeth in the north to Noarlunga in the south, via Modbury and Marion.

“These will provide a wide range of accessible and family friendly services closer to where people live and all under one roof.”

Member for Kingston Amanda Rishworth organised a petition within the community and lobbied hard to ensure the delivery of this service. She said the construction would be welcomed by local residents.

“Residents asked for better health services before the last election and this service will deliver just that. The Noarlunga GP Super Clinic will take pressure off the emergency department at Noarlunga Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre through providing extended hours of GP services for residents and it will create many jobs over the coming months.”
