Minister for Sport and Member for Adelaide Kate Ellis today congratulated the Adelaide Thunderbirds on their outstanding win in the 2010 ANZ Netball Championships.

The Thunderbirds led the Wakito Bay of Plenty Magic throughout the game, eventually winning by 10 goals 52–42.

“I want to congratulate Thunderbirds co-captains Natalie Von Bertouch and Mo’onia Gerrard and the team on a fantastic season and a great match today,” Ms Ellis said.

“The Thunderbirds have done remarkable things to promote netball in South Australia, as evidenced by the Grand Final tickets selling out within just 12 minutes.”

Ms Ellis said that the success of the ANZ Championships proves the growing popularity of netball in both Australia and New Zealand.

“The Thunderbirds' win today will raise the profile on the sport of netball and leave a lasting legacy for the thousands of young girls inspired by their on court heroes."

“The atmosphere at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre was electric today and it was great to see the large and vocal crows get behind the home team."

“Congratulations to all the players on their win - they are wonderful ambassadors for Australian sport”.
