Aged Care Boost for Tumbarumba

Residents in Tumbarumba will have greater access to aged care services through the Tumbarumba Multi-purpose Service (MPS) following the allocation of additional beds to the service.
Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot and Member for Eden Monaro Mike Kelly today announced that four new aged care places had been committed to the Tumbarumba MPS which will allow more older people in the area to receive care in their local community.
“The multi-purpose service model is a joint Australian Government and state and territory government initiative specifically designed to meet the care needs of people living in rural and regional areas where it can sometimes be difficult to keep separate health and aged care services viable. The additional service will allow even more services to be provided to the local community,” Minister Elliot said.
The Greater Southern Area Health Service and the Tumbarumba Shire Council funded the construction of a new aged care unit to accommodate additional residential aged care places at the Tumbarumba MPS.
The generosity of the Tumbarumba local community also allowed for the expansion of the service’s lounge room to include an enclosed sunroom and outdoor space for residents and visitors in addition to new furniture and equipment.
This funding together with Australian Government funding of more than $1 million a year allows the new unit to become fully operational.
Mike Kelly said: "This is great news for Tumbarumba.
"Through the cooperation of all levels of government we have been able to make more services available to local residents. This facility will now be able to expand its services providing flexible health services and better care options for all residents.
“I will continue to act on feedback that I receive from the local community to assist in improving health outcomes for our community”, Mr Kelly said.
With the additional four places, the MPS now provides 19 flexible high care aged care places; 16 flexible low care places; and 10 flexible community care places and respite care.
