The Australian Government and Devonport GP Superclinic Pty Ltd today announced that Vos Construction and Joinery Pty Ltd is the successful tenderer for construction of the Devonport GP Super Clinic in Devonport, Tasmania.

Federal Minister for Rural and Regional Health, the Hon. Warren Snowdon MP, joined with the Member for Braddon, Sid Sidebottom to mark the important milestone for the project.

“We promised to invest $5.5 million in a GP Super Clinic for the people of Devonport,” Mr Sidebottom said. “I am proud to be here today to honour that promise.”

Mr Snowdon said once the clinic is completed, people living in the Devonport area will have better access to quality primary health care services.

“The clinic is bringing together GPs, practice nurses, allied health professionals and medical specialists to provide integrated health care to serve the local community,” Mr Snowdon said.

“Already this week saw the start of the first nurse-led asthma management clinic, and cardiac rehabilitation and diabetes clinics are due to follow.”

The Devonport GP Super Clinic will operate from two sites in Devonport – 8 Wenvoe Street and 144A William Street. Vos Construction will begin work next month on adding a first floor to the Wenvoe Street Clinic.

The clinic will include an osteoporosis clinic and additional services to support people with mental health issues, diabetes, asthma, and musculoskeletal problems. Additionally, it will provide bulk-billed services for enhanced primary care items, and will operate extended hours during the week and on weekends.

Plans for the Devonport GP Super Clinic were developed following community consultation held last year, attended by health professionals and community members from the region.

The clinic is part of the Government’s $275 million commitment to establish 32 GP Super Clinics nationwide and provide primary health care services where they are needed most.
