26 November 2009

The Government intends to support cataract patients by issuing a revised regulation that will pay a $491.85 fee for the most common cataract procedure (42702, previously $416).

This regulation will apply from today to ensure that all patients undergoing cataract procedures will receive a rebate despite the Opposition’s irresponsible actions in the Senate yesterday.

The Government has been clear and consistent in its position on this measure and remains committed to reform in this area.

Technological advances have made this procedure quicker to perform and the Government believes that taxpayers should share in the financial benefits these technological advances deliver.
