$800,000 to Cut Wait for Elective Surgery in Hobart

The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, today visited Royal Hobart Hospital, which has benefited from $800,000 from the Rudd Government to help cut elective surgery waiting times.
The funding was announced as part of the Rudd Government’s $600 million
Elective Surgery Waiting List Reduction Plan – which is already working to reduce elective surgery waiting times across Australia.
Minister Roxon said Royal Hobart Hospital will receive $330,000 to replace four operating tables and a $212,000 telemetry system for the cardiothoracic ward.
It would also receive $110,000 for drying cabinets for day surgery, $80,000 for 12 patient transfer trolleys, $43,000 for a new nurse call system for the neuro surgery ward, and a $23,000 endoscopic probe for the main theatres.
The announcement was made after the latest consultation in the Rudd Government’s community meetings to discuss improving the health care system.
Today’s consultation at the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association Congress in Hobart is the 57th to be held across the country to road-test the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission's proposed reforms.
The Commission’s report made recommendations for system-wide changes to Australian health care.
At today’s Royal Hobart Hospital consultation, Minister Roxon outlined the Commission’s recommendations and heard from local health professionals about their priorities to improve health services around the country.
