The Rudd Government has signed a contract with Warnervale Medical Services Pty Ltd for $2.5 million to establish the North Central Coast GP Super Clinic.

The Government’s agreement with Warnervale Medical Services Pty Ltd will see a temporary GP Super Clinic operating in Woongarrah within four months, whilst preparations are made to house a permanent state-of-the-art clinic in the new Warnervale City development by 2011.

The North Central Coast GP Super Clinic will bring together additional GPs, specialists, allied health professionals, pharmacy, radiology, pathology, rehabilitation, dental, physiotherapy and psychology services – all in one convenient location and with many of the services bulk billed.

As well as providing families and people with chronic disease access to affordable care by general practitioners and health professionals, the new GP Super Clinic should also relieve pressure on the Wyong Accident and Emergency Department, which is one of the busiest in the state.

The head of Warnervale Medical Services Pty Ltd, Dr Brad Cranney and his team have been delivering multidisciplinary practices – in partnership with nurses and allied health professionals – for more than five years at Toukley and Tuggerah.

This team has succeeded, not only in attracting and retaining general practitioners, but in maintaining after hour’s services, developing nurse and allied health led chronic care and family care clinics and working with local business in return to work programs.

The Minister for health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, said GP Super Clinics will play an important role in improving frontline health services in regions such as the North Central Coast.

“The North Central Coast becomes the eleventh GP Super Clinic contract to be signed with the Government,” Ms Roxon said.

Member for Dobell Craig Thomson said it is a great win for the Central Coast to have such an important facility in an area where medical facilities are in high demand.

“I’ve been fighting for facilities like a GP Super Clinic which the Central Coast has missed out on in the past.”

“I’m delighted that this Super Clinic which was an election promise has been delivered for the people of the Central Coast.”

“It’s great to see that a local group of doctors and nurses with two established practices and decades of experience between them will be setting up the GP Super Clinic in Warnervale.”

GP Super Clinics are a $275 million commitment of the Rudd Government, providing primary health care services when and where they are needed.

They are a key part of the Government’s plans to improve Australia’s health care system.
