Sea Lake residents will continue to have access to health and aged care services in their local community thanks to a $2.35 million funding package from the Brumby and Rudd Labor Governments.

Health Minister Daniel Andrews said the funding would secure the future of the Sea Lake and District Health Service, which will operate as a Multi-Purpose Service providing bed-based residential aged care and community health services.

“The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to ensure residents and families have the very best health services, close to where they live,” Mr Andrews said.

“We have worked with the Rudd Government to develop a solution to ensure the Sea Lake community continues to have aged care and health services available locally.

“The Victorian Government will provide a $500,000 capital grant and $200,000 in transition funding to help the service restructure.

“We will continue to give Sea Lake more than $650,000 for health and community services annually, and the Commonwealth has agreed to provide more than $1 million for aged care each year.”

Federal Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot said that the Multi-Purpose Service model provides for the delivery of flexible and localised aged care and health services.

“The Rudd Government’s commitment of annual funding of more than $1 million provides certainty in the provision of residential aged care services for the Sea Lake community.

“This is another example of the Rudd and Brumby Governments working together for the benefit of older Victorians.”

Mr Andrews said the Victorian Government would assist the board with governance and administration.

“I met with the Board of the Sea Lake and District Health Service last week and they told me the service needed to be restructured to ensure its viability,” Mr Andrews said.

“Officials in my department have since met with their federal counterparts and developed a solution to ensure the community can continue to access health and aged care services locally.

“The Brumby Labor Government will assist with the implementation of the new flexible service model and I have asked Mallee Track Health and Community Service to work closely with the Sea Lake board, providing them with administrative support.”

“This is a great example of the State and Commonwealth Governments working together to ensure the sustainability of local services in small rural towns.”
