The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, today encouraged local residents in Mt Isa to attend the upcoming GP Super Clinic community consultation session she is hosting on Wednesday December 10.
A community consultation breakfast will take place for the $2.5 million Mt Isa GP Super clinic from 7:15am at the Mt Isa Civic Centre, The Auditorium, 23 West Street, Mt Isa.
As part of this year’s Federal Budget, the Australian Government announced funding of up to $275 million to set up 31 GP Super Clinics around Australia, including one in Mt Isa.
“Super Clinics are designed to provide easy and convenient access to a range of health services - a one stop shop for patients.
“This consultation is Mt Isa’s opportunity to both seek and share information about this process,” Ms Roxon said.
“Through the new Super Clinic, both residents and visitors to the region will benefit from improved health services.”
GP Super Clinics will provide infrastructure for GPs and other health professionals such as allied health workers, nurses and specialists. This means they can work together in one location, providing greater convenience for patients and a greater range of quality services in local communities.
“The Mt Isa GP Super Clinic will ensure that the whole community, especially families and people with chronic diseases, will be provided with comprehensive, high quality care.”
“In addition, GP Super Clinics provide an ideal training setting for GP registrars, nurses and allied health students, giving them the unique opportunity to gain practical experience working within a multidisciplinary team.”
Residents and Health Professionals are invited to register their interest by calling the Department of Health and Ageing on (02) 6289 7374.
