Mr Shaun Gath has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Private Health Insurance Administration Council (PHIAC) by the Australian Government.
PHIAC is an independent statutory authority that regulates the private health insurance industry. It plays an important role in the Government’s commitment to protect the interests of private health insurance consumers.
Mr Gath brings considerable knowledge and expertise to the role. He has previously worked with the Health Insurance Commission (now Medicare Australia) and Medibank Private as its General Counsel. For the last seven years, Mr Gath has been a partner of the national law firm Blake Dawson based in Canberra where he has acted for a wide range of public and health sector clients.
As the CEO of PHIAC, Mr Gath will help protect the interests of private health insurance consumers by ensuring the prudential stability and sound governance of insurers.
I thank Ms Gayle Ginnane for her dedication and contribution during her time as the founding CEO of PHIAC for the past 12 years. I wish her well in her retirement.
PHIAC Commissioner JT Dominguez also thanked Ms Ginnane for her contribution at a formative time, and said he was looking forward to working with Mr Gath.
It is anticipated that Mr Gath will take up his appointment early next month.
