Funding for two north-west Tasmanian sporting facility upgrades was confirmed today by Federal Member for Braddon Sid Sidebottom.
The Somerset Soccer Club is set to receive $125,000 for new change rooms, while $30,000 is to be spent establishing the Circular Head Little Athletics Club.
The Minister for Sport, Kate Ellis, wrote to the respective clubs recently to confirm these funding commitments for the 2008-09 year.
“These projects will help to sustain the strong sporting tradition on the North-West Coast,” Mr Sidebottom said.
“The Somerset Soccer Club has been so successful on the field in recent years- $125,000 will go a long way towards building new change rooms at the ground.
“Circular Head has a proud sporting history – the push for the establishment of a Little Athletics Club has been a project very dear to my heart.
“No doubt we will see many young sporting champions move through the ranks at their new club.”
Mr Sidebottom said the relevant Federal Government departments would make contact with each club shortly to discuss the funding arrangements.
“Investing in development of local sporting infrastructure is an important priority of the Rudd Government, because it is as much an investment in the health and wellbeing of local families as it is an investment in local facilities,” Mr Sidebottom said.
