Minister for Ageing, Mrs Justine Elliot today announced $450,000 over three years in funding to the Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG) – a not-for-profit professional association for more than 800 aged care experts.
“Today’s funding will continue to provide the AAG with additional resources over the next three years,” Minister Elliot said.
The 45-year old AAG promotes and supports research, information and education, partnerships and evidence-based policy development.
“The AAG has the expertise to provide advice and work closely with the Australian Government to help address the challenges associated with our nation’s ageing population,” Mrs Elliot said.
This funding will contribute to the salary of an executive officer to allow the organisation to continue to operate.
“Through close collaboration with the Government, the AAG will assist in informing and shaping the ageing research and education agenda.
“The Government’s continued support of the AAG will enable this network, drawn from diverse backgrounds, to contribute to effective national policy development to improve the experience of ageing in our country.
This is about helping to prepare for the challenges of the 21st century and responding to the needs of Australia’s ageing population.”
Australians now have the world’s second longest life expectancy – after the Japanese.
