The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing is working closely with the NSW Public Health Unit and the NSW Food Authority on the recent gastroenteritis outbreak at the Endeavour Aged Care Facility in the Blue Mountains.

Commonwealth Nursing Officers from the Department of Health and Ageing have visited the nursing home to ensure that residents are receiving appropriate care.

As a further precaution, the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency - the independent nursing home standards body - will also visit the facility over the weekend to ensure that the nursing home is meeting all health, staff and safety standards.

NSW Food Authority has advised that some of the deaths may be referred to the Coroner and we will await the Coroner's findings.

Endeavour Residential Aged Care Facility is a 68 bed high care service, located in the Blue Mountains, NSW.
