9 June 2008 - 9pm (Perth time)

Minister for Ageing, Mrs Justine Elliot tonight visited the site of a mini-tornado in southern Perth which hit an aged care facility in Western Australia.

The Tanby Hall Aged Care facility in Cooloongup was hit today (June 9 – 8.30am) and its roof was smashed and removed by the storm.

Mrs Elliot thanked SES staff and volunteers as well as staff at the Tanby Hall for their efforts today.

WA Department of Health and Ageing officials report that 28 of the 52-bed facility were affected.

Two were taken to hospital for on-going treatment and 26 were relocated with family and friends.

“Thankfully no one was hurt.

“The SES and staff pulled together and put the needs and welfare of residents first. I congratulate them,” Mrs Elliot said.
