The Australian Government today recognised Noel and Catherine Richardson for their significant contribution to improving the lives of senior Australians.
The Australian Government Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot, and the federal Member for Lowe, John Murphy, presented Mr and Mrs Richardson with plaques at an award function in Strathfield today.
The Community Service Award is presented by the Minister for Ageing to individuals who provide outstanding service to older Australians, or to older Australians who provide outstanding community service. They may be community members, volunteers, carers, aged-care workers or administrators.
Mrs Elliot said Mr and Mrs Richardson were worthy recipients of the award due to their long and continued volunteer service in the local community. The couple have lived in Croydon Park for many years.
“The award is an Australian Government initiative which is designed to recognise the contribution of people whose efforts might otherwise go unremarked,” Mrs Elliot said.
“We value the contribution of senior Australians and the role they have played in shaping our country.
“Mr and Mrs Richardson have over 65 years of volunteer service between them. Mr Richardson has been a member of St Vincent De Paul for 40 years, the President of Enfield Conference for eight years, as well as a driver for Meals on Wheels for five years. Mrs Richardson has volunteered with Meals on Wheels for nearly 25 years.
“Senior Australians benefit from the tireless work of people like Mr and Mrs Richardson and I encourage all Australians take heed of the example set by today’s award winners,” Mrs Elliot said
In welcoming Mrs Elliot, the federal Member for Lowe, John Murphy, said he was pleased to see local residents recognised for their hard work and effort.
“This dynamic duo has made an outstanding contribution to the lives of senior residents in our local community,” Mr Murphy said.
“Noel and Catherine are absolute assets to our community. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate them on this tremendous achievement. I would like to thank them, on behalf of the community, for all the work they do,” Mr Murphy said.
