ABB130/07

In September, I appointed members to the Mersey Community Hospital Interim Advisory Committee.

The Committee has played a crucial role in advising me on facilitating a smooth transition of the hospital from state ownership and operation to community control. As of November 1, hospital ownership and responsibility for operations will transfer to the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Government will work with the Committee, to be known henceforth as the interim Board, to establish a Community Hospital Board that will take over responsibility for running the Hospital as soon as practical in 2008.

Members of the interim Board will form the Board once it is formally established. They will be joined by the chairman of the medical staff council, the Director of Nursing and one other member of staff.

I am also pleased to announce that Dr John Menzies, the current CEO of the Mersey Hospital, will continue as Interim CEO of the Mersey Community Hospital. The interim Board will shortly begin an open process to select a permanent CEO.
