Frail older people, people with a disability and their carers will benefit from additional funding of $3.8 million to the Home and Community Care (HACC) program in Tasmania announced today by the Australian Government Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot, and the Tasmanian Minister for Health and Human Services, Lara Giddings.

The additional funding brings the total HACC funding in Tasmania for 2007-08 to more than $45 million.

“Home and Community Care is a crucial part of the Australian Government’s plans to create and maintain an aged care system that is tailored to provide high-quality, affordable and accessible care that meets the individual needs of older people, people who have a disability, and their carers,” Mrs Elliot said.

Ms Giddings said the HACC program would make important contributions in areas of growing demand.

“The Tasmanian Government is committed to building the capacity of community care services to provide improved care and support within the community: this is an integral feature of Tasmania’s future health plan,” she said.
