A $13 million funding boost for the Home and Community Care (HACC) program in Western Australia will bring total HACC funding in Western Australia for 2007-08 to $166 million, an increase of 8.7 per cent.

The additional funding was announced today by the Australian Government Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot, and the Western Australian Minister for Health, Jim McGinty.

“This extra funding will help to support and extend important services in city and country areas,” Mrs Elliot said.

“HACC is a joint Australian Government and state and territory government program to which the Australian Government contributes 60 per cent of the funding across Australia.

“This financial year, the Australian Government’s national allocation for HACC is more than $1.06 billion, an increase of 8.44 per cent over the Australian Government’s funding in 2006 07,” she said.

Mr McGinty said the program made an important contribution in an area of growing demand.

“HACC services allow frail aged people and young people with disabilities to remain in their own homes with the support of their family,” he said.

“We know the majority of people prefer to continue living in their own homes, and HACC services can provide them with that option as well as a higher level of independence.”
