Frail aged people, younger people with a disability, and their carers will benefit from more than $450,000 in additional funding for community transport provided by the Home and Community Care (HACC) program in New South Wales.

The Minister for Ageing, Christopher Pyne, and the NSW Minister for Ageing and Disability Services, Kristina Keneally, today jointly announced the funding for 13 HACC projects across NSW.

Mr Pyne emphasised the important role of the HACC program in the Australian Government’s aged-care policy framework.

“The HACC program provides services to support people who are frail aged, younger people with disability and their carers, who live at home and whose capacity for independent living is at risk of premature or inappropriate admission to long term residential care” he said.

Ms Keneally said that the projects funded under this package would provide additional services for older people and people with disabilities who need transport assistance to have easier access to the communities in which they live.

“These funds will enhance community transport services after hours and on weekends, enabling older people to shop, attend doctor’s appointments, or go on social outings during those times,” she said.

“By approving these projects, the NSW and Australian Governments are aiming to help people with functional disabilities to live as independently as possible in their own homes - which is what most want.”

A table showing the funding is attached.
