Joint Media Release
The Hon. Greg Hunt MP
Minister for Health
LNP candidate for Longman
13 June 2018
The Turnbull Government will significantly boost life-changing drug and alcohol support services in the Caboolture and Bribie Island region with an $11 million investment, with funding immediately available.
This funding will save lives, keep families together and create a safer community.
It will mean residents can access more services locally in their community rather than travelling to Brisbane.
Lives Lived Well will considerably increase their detox and rehabilitation services in the local area, including specific ice support services, with $3.6 million available from 1 July 2018 to fund services over three years.
The non-profit organisation’s services are currently stretched, experiencing between 70 to 80 per cent more demand than they can support – this funding will now mean they can fully meet this significant demand.
Services will include a new day rehabilitation service for patients in need of high care and constant support.
We will provide $7.5 million to fund the capital development and on-going services for a new 20-bed residential rehabilitation facility based in Caboolture, which will provide live-in treatment options for patients in need.
This funding will start to flow immediately and will again reduce a significant barrier for support for those people who are unable to travel to Brisbane for help.
Delivering services to people in their local area gives them a greater chance of overcoming their illness, helping them stay within their local support network, close to other community groups.
The local community has called for more support services and we are happy to deliver on this important need.
Alcohol and drugs, especially ice and meth addiction, rips families and communities apart and this funding will ensure more much support is offered to stop people slipping through the cracks.
Trevor Ruthenberg welcomed the Government’s investment in dealing with addiction in the Caboolture region.
“I’m very pleased that the Turnbull LNP Government continues to invest in providing better health service for our area. This service will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of many local families. That’s why I’m running in Longman.”
The Turnbull Government has committed more than $713 million over four years to reduce the impact of drug and alcohol misuse on individuals, families and communities.
It was the LNP that established the National Ice Action Strategy to tackle the scourge of ice, especially in regional Australia with $298.2 million in funding.
