I thank stakeholders for their participation and goodwill in today’s meeting of providers and representatives of remote health services.

This has been an extremely difficult time for the remote health workforce, their communities, families and employers.

I thank all those in attendance for their respectful approach at this difficult time.

Remote health workers face unique and difficult challenges every day and these challenges are best understood by those on the front line. Whilst the Federal Government funds many of these remote services, they are in fact independently run, as they should be.

I have always had great admiration for the skills, determination and tenacity of health workers in remote locations.

Today’s discussion produced a number of worthy, original and thoughtful ideas which both stakeholders and government will carefully and methodically consider.

I will seek to raise these matters with my State and Territory colleagues over the coming weeks.
