Assistant Minister for Health Fiona Nash heads to New Zealand today for talks with New Zealand Ministers.

Minister Nash said Australia and New Zealand shared a close regional relationship, and the opportunity to engage in face-to-face talks was welcome.

Minister Nash is planning to meet with New Zealand’s Minister for Food Safety, Nikki Kaye; Minister for Primary Industries, Nathan Guy and Associate Minister for Primary Industries Jo Goodhew; and Minister of Health, Tony Ryall MP.

“New Zealand is a close friend and neighbour, and we have many interests in common. Ministerial discussions are positive opportunities to progress a range of issues,” Minister Nash said.

Discussions around food and nutrition policy are on the agenda, as well as sharing ideas to improve the health of Australians living in regional and remote areas.

“The Australian Government is interested in the approaches that other nations are taking to improve their health systems and to improve the health of people living outside the major cities and towns.

“I welcome the opportunity to discuss issues within my portfolio areas with New Zealand Ministers,” she said.
