Older Australians will be able to more quickly find support and information about Australian Government services from an updated directory launched today by the Minister for Ageing, Julie Bishop.

The 2005-06 Australian Government Directory of Services for Older People will be distributed to more than 10,000 organisations relied upon by older people for information and assistance.

These include community aged care providers, aged care homes, Aged Care Assessment Teams and Commonwealth Carelink Centres.

Ms Bishop said wide-ranging information was compiled from all Australian Government departments to ensure the directory was comprehensive and provided up-to-date information on topics such as work, health and aged care, and finances.

"The directory gives a brief description of each program or service available and telephone and web site contact details for obtaining more information," she said.

"By targeting the directory at organisations that care for older people and their families we provide information and assistance directly to those most in need."
