The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing, Christopher Pyne, has welcomed news today that GlaxoSmithKline would be increasing the availability of its Nicabate products by releasing them into supermarkets.

"I raised the issue of why nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) were not more widely available with GlaxoSmithKline and various other pharmaceutical companies earlier this month," Mr Pyne said.

"I am delighted that GlaxoSmithKline has made this decision. It is a win for smokers who want to quit as now they will have greater and easier access to NRT products, especially at the point of sale where they might normally purchase their cigarettes.

"I’d urge all other manufacturers and suppliers of nicotine replacement therapies to rethink their distribution policies," he said.
