Minister visits Albany aged care home
Minister for Ageing Julie Bishop today congratulated Clarence Estate residential aged care facility in Albany for the excellent facilities and standard of care offered to residents in the south-west of Western Australia.
The 86-place home opened in March 2002 and has achieved three-year quality accreditation at the highest standard.
Ms Bishop visited the home as part of her commitment to meet with aged care residents and providers throughout Australia.
"I was delighted to visit Clarence Estate to see the innovative care being provided and to meet with residents, staff and providers of this high quality facility," Ms Bishop said.
"Aged care residents across Australia are seeking more choices in services, and aged care providers are keen to respond to that demand.
"Clarence Estate offers 32 'Extra Service' places, exemplifying the flexibility and choice now provided for aged care residents as part of the Australian Government's 'Extra Service' initiative."
Extra Service is part of the Australian Government's vision for a world-class system of aged care which delivers high-quality, affordable and accessible care.
Since 1996, the government has delivered:
- a 100 per cent increase in funding, from $3 billion in 1995/96 to $6 billion this financial year;
- more than 55,600 new aged care places across Australia;
- substantial increases in funding and support for aged care services delivered in the home to meet the desire of people to remain at home as they age; and
- an independent, legislated accreditation system designed to deliver continuing improvements in the quality of care and accommodation provided for older Australians.
