Evidence Based Guidelines for Diabetes

Guidelines have been, or are being, developed for diabetes.

National evidence based guidelines are being prepared for the prevention, detection and management of Type 2 diabetes in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) approval and ratification process.

When completed, there will be eleven guidelines:

  1. Type 1 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents
  2. Primary Prevention
  3. Case Detection and Diagnosis
  4. Diagnosis and Management of Hypertension
  5. Prevention and Detection of Macrovascular Disease
  6. Identification and Management of Diabetic Foot Disease
  7. Lipid Control in Type 2 Diabetes
  8. Management of Diabetic Retinopathy
  9. Blood glucose control
  10. Renal disease
  11. Patient education
To date, guidelines 1 to 8 have been endorsed by the NHMRC. Guidelines 9, 10 and 11 are under development and guidelines 2 and 3 are currently being reviewed and updated.
