Dental Training - Expanding Rural Placements (DTERP) Program

This program aims to improve the availability of rural dental care and strengthen the rural dental workforce.

Dental Training - Expanding Rural Placements Program Guidelines

The DTERP program supports six Australian dental faculties to develop extended rural training programs. These faculties are:

  • The University of Adelaide
  • Griffith University
  • The University of Melbourne
  • The University of Sydney
  • The University of Queensland
  • The University of Western Australia

The Program is designed to encourage dental students to take up a career in rural practice by providing positive, high quality clinical education and training experiences for dental students in rural areas.

Capital and operational funding is provided to support at least 30 full-time equivalent clinical placements annually (five per university) for dentistry students in established rural training settings. Placements must be in ASGC RA 2-5 areas.

Operational funding is for student support, new teaching appointments and administration costs. Capital funding has supported the development of rural educational facilities including teaching space, new dental chairs and student accommodation.
