Medical Training Review Panel: thirteenth report

The thirteenth report of the Medical Training Review Panel (MTRP) provides information on university, prevocational and vocational medical training places, applicants, trainees, examinations, new college fellows and total college fellows. For the first time the report also presents a chapter on those overseas trained doctors applying to work and working in Australia.

The data for the report has been sourced from the Medical Deans Australia and New Zealand (MDANZ), state and territory health departments, medical colleges, General Practice Education and Training Limited (GPET), the Australian Medical Council, the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Given the differing collection methodology for different data, the year for which data is reported varies. For university medical training and colleges this is for 2008, whereas for pre-vocational and vocational trainee commencements it is 2009. Where possible, time series data has been included as an appendix to the report dating back to 1997, the first year in which the MTRP reported.
