The Rural Health Continuing Education Sub-program (RHCE) was announced in the 2009-10 budget and consolidates funding from the Rural Advanced Specialists Training Scheme (RASTS), the Support Scheme for Rural Specialists (SSRS), the Rural Health Support Education and Training (RHSET) Program, and the Rural Health Education Foundation (RHEF).

RHCE provides access to professional training and support in rural and remote areas for medical specialists through Stream One Funding and for allied health professionals, nurses, general practitioners and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers through Stream Two Funding.

Stream One Funding is currently managed by the Committee of Presidents of Medical Colleges.

Stream Two Funding is currently managed by the National Rural Health Alliance Inc.
