Ear and Hearing Training initiative for Aboriginal Health Workers
The Ear and Hearing Training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers project is part of the Improving Eye and Ear Health Services for Indigenous Australians initiative, which aims to improve eye and ear health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people , leading to better education and employment outcomes and assisting to Close the Gap in Indigenous health.
The training project involves the development of an equipment training kit, and the development and provision of nationally accredited ear and hearing training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, with the aim of expanding ear and hearing services within Aboriginal medical/health services (either public or community controlled).
The Department has engaged the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) to coordinate the development and delivery of this training project; through Aboriginal community controlled registered training organisations.
