State and Territory Offices

State & Territory Offices (STOs)

Outlines the role of the department's State and Territory Offices

The role of the department’s State and Territory Offices is very significant, as they represent the Department’s interests at state and territory level. The STOs are well positioned to assist in identifying policy links as well as overlaps and gaps between programs. Working locally and in cooperation with State, territory and other Government agencies, STOs ensure appropriate integration of services on the ground.

STO staff work in partnership with a range of local stakeholders to ensure services provided through the Department’s programs are responsive to diverse local needs and conditions.

STOs have a number of responsibilities in respect of the Department’s programs including: capacity building; stakeholder relationship management; contract management; coordination and completion of tender and submission assessment process. Local corporate support services are provided to the STO staff in the areas of human resources and business management. STOs are also involved closely with whole of government activities including, but not limited to, Indigenous affairs, population ageing and the planning of settlement services for newly arrived immigrants.
