Anti-Doping
Australian government support for anti-doping research
The Anti-Doping Research Program provides funding to academic and scientific organisations for new anti-doping research.
The purpose of the research is to:
- improve the analytical capability for detecting the use of banned substances and doping agents in sport; and
- better understand doping behaviours and inform practical doping deterrence strategies.
The ADRP Panel assesses applications for funding under the program and monitors the progress of funded projects.
The ADRP Panel comprises representatives from:
- the Department of Health and Ageing (non-voting chair) (Mr Bill Rowe, Assistant Secretary, Sport Branch);
- the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (Professor Andrew McLachlan); and
- the Australian Institute of Sport (Dr Peter Fricker).
The Panel also has three independent members who bring expertise in the areas of sports medicine, sports doping and relevant laboratory and social sciences:
- Professor Ken Fitch AM;
- Professor David Handelsman; and
- Professor Brian Stoddart.
