Radiation Oncology Reform Implementation Committee (RORIC)

RORIC is an inter-jurisdictional committee which includes other key stakeholders. It was established to facilitate the planning and implementation of strategies to ensure improved radiotherapy service outcomes for patients.

Background

RORIC is an inter-jurisdictional committee which includes other key stakeholders. It was established to facilitate the planning and implementation of strategies to ensure improved radiotherapy service outcomes for patients. RORIC reports to the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Committee (AHMAC) through the Clinical, Technical and Ethical Principal Committee (CTEPC).

The Commonwealth, represented by the Department of Health and Ageing, currently holds the RORIC chair and provides secretariat support for the committee and its working groups. Membership consists of:
  • a senior representative from each of the State, Territory and Commonwealth departments of health
  • a technical expert
  • a professional representative nominated by, but not representing, the Tripartite Committee (a committee consisting of the three radiation oncology professional groups)
  • a consumer representative nominated by, and representing, Cancer Voices Australia, and
  • an expert adviser from Cancer Australia.
RORIC has three working groups which undertake activities relating to various aspects of radiation oncology: the Quality Working Group, the Service Planning Forum and the Workforce Working Group.

Recent RORIC Initiatives

Quality Working Group (QWG)

In August 2011, the RORIC QWG also hosted a symposium, “Beyond Bricks and Mortar – Building quality cancer services”. A summary of this event can be viewed online at Beyond Bricks and Mortar.

Workforce Working Group (WWG)

In 2009, the RORIC WWG acted as a steering committee for a consultancy commissioned by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Ageing - Review of the current status and capacity of the radiation oncology workforce in Australia.

In response to this report, RORIC, and the RORIC WWG, have prepared the RORIC Workforce Reform Framework to guide ongoing radiation oncology workforce related activity. If you would like to receive a copy of this report please email the Radiation Oncology Section.
