The National Health Disaster Management Capability Audit 2008 is the third national audit designed to identify pressures in the health system during a major emergency and to act on these to improve responses into the future.

The first National Health Disaster Management Capability Audit was carried out in 2003 and was edited for public release in May 2009.

The National Health Disaster Management Capability Audit 2005 (2005 Audit) is the second in a series of national capability audits undertaken by the Australian Health Protection Committee (AHPC), previously the Australian Health Disaster Management Policy Committee (AHDMPC), to provide a national assessment of health assets that may be employed in a health disaster. The first National Health Disaster Management Capability Audit was carried out in 2003 (2003 Audit). In 2005 the AHDMPC agreed it was timely to undertake the second audit. The rationale behind the 2005 Audit was to provide a more current and detailed “snapshot” of Australia’s public health disaster response assets over the audit window of August to November of 2005.
