This project was commissioned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Research Fund (NDLERF). It was undertaken after a number of major inquiries into drug driving revealed growing evidence that drugs other than alcohol are a contributory factor in a significant number of road crash incidents.

The aim of this research is to assess whether street-level drug law enforcement encourages heroin users into methadone treatment and to assess the extent to which it promotes unsafe injection practices. The research was conducted by means of a survey involving face to face interviews with 511 heroin users in central and south western Sydney.
