This discussion paper has been prepared by the Department of Health and Ageing as a basis for consultation with pathology stakeholders. These consultations will inform the development of advice to the Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Nicola Roxon MP, regarding options for future funding of pathology services. This paper has been developed to guide consultation and discussion by providing an overview of some of the issues identified in respect of the current funding arrangements and to help identify possible alternative options for consideration.
