Sponsors are reminded that they can submit applications to list new prostheses and amend current listings at any time. Applications that are submitted on or before the “cut-off” dates have the best chance of being referred to the CAG meeting and processed for listing on the next Prostheses List.

Panel of Clinical Experts

Applications should be submitted at least 8 weeks before a PLAC meeting to have the best chance of being referred to that meeting. Please note that clinicians’ availability to assess applications is limited from the week before Christmas to the end of January.

Applications to list Prostheses in new groupings

All applications to list new prostheses are assessed by the CAGs or PoCE to advise the PLAC on listing and grouping on the Prostheses List.

An application to list a prosthesis in a new grouping or with a new suffix or combination of suffixes is also referred to the Health Economists Sub Committee (HESC) to validate the sponsor’s proposed benefit for the new grouping. These applications will take longer to process than applications to list prostheses in existing groupings as the HESC needs to consider the advice of the CAG or PoCE on comparative clinical effectiveness and outcomes. The HESC may also need to liaise further with the sponsor if there is insufficient information and evidence in the application to validate the proposed benefit.

In the meantime, should you need to contact the CAG/PoCE secretariat, please call the Prostheses hotline on (02) 6289 9463 or email the Prostheses secretariat. Queries coming through these channels will be passed on to the relevant secretariat, and responded to accordingly.
