National Diabetes Strategy
Australian, state and territory governments agreed to the National Diabetes Strategy in 2000 and Commonwealth funding of $2.1 million (indexed annually) was committed to the strategy to assist governments and service providers to help improve the health of Australians with, or at risk of diabetes.
The National Diabetes Strategy provides a focus for coordinating the wide range of activities being undertaken across Australia to improve the prevention, early detection and management of diabetes.
Several projects under the National Diabetes Strategy have been aimed at improving the evidence base across the continuum of care for diabetes.
Key initiatives under the National Diabetes Strategy include:
- National Service Improvement Framework for Diabetes
- Diabetes Prevention Pilot Initiative
- Evidence based guidelines for the management of diabetes
- National Centre for Monitoring Diabetes
- National Centre for Cardiovascular Disease
- National Centre for Chronic Kidney Disease
- National Diabetes Register
- Australian National Diabetes Information Audit and Benchmarking (ANDIAB) project
