Better health and ageing for all Australians

Cancer

In 1996, Australian Health Ministers announced cancer as a National Health Priority Area in recognition of the major burden that cancer places on the Australian community.

The focus is on eight priority cancers: lung cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, non-melanocytic skin cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Cancer Australia was established in 2006 and provides national leadership in cancer control and improves coordination of, and collaboration between, all stakeholders, including people affected by cancer, health professionals, researchers, cancer and other community organisations and governments.
