National Women’s Health Policy: Consultation Submissions

Information on Consultation Submissions

On 29 October 2007, the Government made an election commitment to the development of a National Women’s Health Policy to improve the health and wellbeing of all women in Australia, and implement policies to encourage the health system to be more responsive to the needs of women.

On 12 March 2009 the Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Nicola Roxon, MP, released the Development of a New National Women’s Health Policy: Consultation Discussion Paper 2009, commencing the first phase of consultations on the National Women’s Health Policy. This followed the release of the Developing a Women's Health Policy for Australia - Setting the Scene paper on 16 December 2008.

The development of the National Women’s Health Policy will be progressed in consultation with the state and territory governments, health service providers, consumer and advocacy groups and Australian women.

Submission Process

Submissions to the National Women’s Health Policy are currently open for those individuals or organisations that would like to contribute to the development of the policy in this way.

Guidance questions have been developed to assist in the development of submissions and are structured around the five suggested principles to underpin the development of the policy as outlined in the Development of a New National Women’s Health Policy: Consultation Discussion Paper 2009. These questions should not be regarded as prescriptive, but are offered to allow flexibility for organisations and individuals in their submissions.

Submissions close 20 November 2009 and may be delivered to:
