Pharmacy Practice Incentives Program Data

The Fifth Community Pharmacy Agreement (5CPA), between the Commonwealth and Pharmacy Guild of Australia, includes the Pharmacy Practice Incentives (PPI) Program.

There are six priority areas under the PPI Program which aim to support pharmacies to provide an increased range of quality health and medicine related services. These services include disease state management, screening and risk assessment, health promotion and essential community services such as needle and syringe programs as well as promoting the building of relationships with other health professionals to improve patient health outcomes.

The PPI Program also supports pharmacies to provide medicines to consumers in instalments, when directed by the prescriber, or packed into Dose Administration Aids to assist with improving the quality use of medicines. The Clinical Interventions priority area supports pharmacists to identify, manage, and document drug related issues associated with a patient’s medicine.

In addition, pharmacies participating in the PPI Program must display and comply with the Community Pharmacy Service Charter which assists consumers to understand what level of service they can expect to receive from their local community pharmacy.

Eligible community pharmacies are entitled to claim incentive payments four times a year through submitting a claim to the Department of Human Services (Medicare) outlining the number of Clinical Interventions and/or Dose Administration Aids services provided in the relevant claiming period.

The following data will be provided on a six-monthly basis, six months in arrears.
