Palliative Care
Paediatric Palliative Care
Under the National Palliative Care Program the Australian Government has funded a number of projects to improve the understanding of palliative care for children and young people and support families of children with a life-limiting illness.
These are:
- Paediatric Palliative Care Service Model Review
- Journeys – Palliative Care for Children and Teenagers
Paediatric Palliative Care Service Model Review
In 2002 the Department funded a review of Australian paediatric palliative care. The review considered current services and practice to consider which kinds of services best meet Australian needs and which elements of care could be developed further. The review found that the needs of dying children have not been addressed to the same extent as the needs of dying older patients.
