The community consultation in Sydney was held on Monday, 3 December 2012. Sixty-three participants from the community and health and social services sector attended and were welcomed by the Minister for Indigenous Health, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP. Key themes emerging from the discussions included the importance of community engagement in developing new policy and programs, the need for better access to services and linkages across health and social services, the importance of health literacy and education and issues relating to the unavailability of culturally safe aged care services, pre-natal support and early childhood nutrition. There was a specific focus on early engagement with communities by governments and organisations on what would improve their health and well-being and better coordination of services.
